Cannington Pantomime Society was originally going to be a Carnival Club, as part of the Millennium celebrations the village wanted to start something to bring the village community together.  Many of the regulars that went in the Globe Inn had been members of various Carnival Clubs and so over a few drinks that’s where the idea was born and to Join the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival circuit.

 

After a few meetings and research, we found that the cost to set up a Carnival Club would be far too expensive to do and therefore the idea that came around to do a Pantomime instead….and so it became, we have been putting on yearly Pantomime productions since 2001.  

 

The society is purely self-funded, we raise money through fundraising and rely on the support of our village community to help us put on a good show year on year!  Everything you see on stage is made from scratch, we don’t buy props or costumes they are all made by ourselves. This is why fundraising and support is much needed and appreciated.

 

After a few years we then decided to enter the Somerset Drama Cinderella Awards, these awards are for all the Pantomimes across Somerset to enter where you have a Moderator and Adjudicator  come and judge your production. We entered for a few years but so early on our reviews were no so good and it was decided that we would no longer enter. The most important thing to us is that the cast and audience enjoy it and keep coming back year on year.

 

In recent years we decided that we would enter again, although our audience is our priority we also think it is nice to get recognition for all the effort that is made by everyone involved.  It is important to know that we do not only complete with the other village pantomimes but all of the local pantomimes in theatres across Somerset!

The society are always looking for new members whether it is be in the show or helping back stage.  During the year we are always looking for help with painting, props and costume making so if you think you could spare the time then please get in touch.
